February 2009”  (Letter)

Since I started my recipe stories and web sites 4 years ago, more readers have joined than I expected, and I have received many favorable comments, which are greatly appreciated.  I will share some of my favorite reader comments below; but first, I want to let you in on a couple of decisions I have made for my site.  I will be posting my stories less frequently, but will include more recipes.  I will also occasionally change the theme for my stories.

One of my resolutions for 2009 is to “clear the clutter.”  That includes getting rid of old magazines and articles that seemed important at the time when I placed them aside to read “later!”  While going through a stack of these old magazines I came across a copy of the story, "The Star Thrower,” by Loren Eiseley.  I share my morphed version here.

In these overwhelming years of financial crisis, unemployment, wars, etc, when it seems impossible for a single individual to make a difference it reminded me that we may not be able to change the world but we can indeed made a difference one person at a time.

I have known many people who have quietly been changing the world around them, maybe not in big ways that will get them on the Oprah Show.  Many of them will not even get their story into print any other way, or even have an obituary written about them – but they are the “unsung” heroes and heroines who inspire me each and every day.  I want to share that inspiration with you in future postings through tales - true tales - about people I have known who have made a difference in small ways without any pomp and fanfare….

Now for some of my favorite comments from readers of my Recipe Stories:

“Nice writing. You are on my RSS reader now so I can read more from you down the road.” Thanks Alan.

“I love your recipes, but more than that I really enjoy reading your stories.” Thank you.

“Hello, Your site is great. Regards” I am glad you like my site Valintino

“ dear anjali, i enjoyed the story of you and your dad so much….. looking forward to the recipes and more of your letters.” Jenny Jo, I really appreciate your comments.

“Thank you for your fantastic web site. I am in Australia….” Robyn, it is nice to hear from someone all the way from Australia.

To Barbara M.  Linda (and your kitty) and Azad. Thanks for all your e-mails.  It is always good to hear from you.

And also thanks to Bob (cousin and dear friend)  “…of seeing how private info, perceptions, whatever, can be isolated and repackaged (what a barbarous word!) as successive, random-access windows…on a world now lost without having to go whole hog in formal tomes or the umpteen volumes of something like A la recherche des choses perdues….(in search of lost things…) I really appreciated seeing pictures of Gita's father as a younger man, not to mention that of her school, legendary in my imagination for nearly forty years.”

Jules, I hope you received the chicken recipes I e-mailed you.  You had requested some recipes for your daughter who likes chicken.  You had also inquired: “… I am not sure how to convert recipes to the smaller cooker for her. Also is the cooking time different due to the smaller size. Thanks.”

Ingrid, I hope you enjoyed the recipes you had requested: “Do you have a good chicken curry dish without nuts, but fruit?”

For those of you who made the following comments, I will try and include recipes to your taste:

“I would love for you to post more everday punjabi indian recipes or other indian recipes.

“I would like to find out if you have any good crock pot recipes that have Indian ingredients.”

“Love curried chicken with all kinds of fruit, cherries, cranberries, ginger pieces, etc.“

"I just wanted to tell you how much I look forward to preparing several of your recipes.  I've printed out several of them and they sound wonderful!  Thanks for sharing!!"  Thanks Elaine and do let me know how they turn out.

“I just read your Steve and Madeline post. Please keep writing, that was very touching.  I will bookmark and follow you. Kind regards.” Thanks Orchid, and you know right after I received your note I came across a cutting from among my papers about Madelyn.  She was born in New York city in 1902 and died on Aug. 6 1974.  She moved to Alaska in 1947 and married Steve in 1950

Unfortunately the reader who asked, “Could you send me a simple recipe for a very hot curry sauce,”  I tried to e-mail some recipes but the email was undeliverable. I am going to include these recipes in this edition. Hopefully she will be able to read these via the site.

And…

In August of last year a relative I have not met in almost forty five years, who now lives in Australia connected with me through this site!  Hi Mohan.

Besides the links above I am including some soups and stews that Dan and I have been enjoying this winter. Also some recipes I will be using for our Anniversary on April 1st.

Enjoy engaging stories and great recipes like the one above by Email.
